Top 3 differences between Body Lotion and Body Butter

Body lotion and body butter are both fantastic body care products for the skin, but they both serve different purposes when it comes to nourishing and hydrating the skin. While these are both great body care products, their differences in texture, ingredients, and moisturizing properties are what make them better for specific skin types. So what is the difference between body lotion and body butter, and how do you choose the right one for your skin? Let’s first understand the purpose of each and how they each can benefit the skin.

The body lotion is much lighter than body butter, and typically has a non-greasy feel to it, making it easily and quickly absorbable into the skin. Lotion and its consistency are very lightweight and easily spreadable. The body lotion also has a much shorter life span compared to body butter, where it’s best to have it in small portions or store it in a cold place in order to preserve it for longer. Being made up of typically majority water, body lotion is best for those who don’t suffer from overly dry skin, but rather look for an everyday moisturizer they can use.

Body Butter is typically made of oils and kinds of butter and gives a more intensive moisturizer to the skin. The water content in body butter is much lower than it’s friend body lotion. Applying body butter makes it much longer to absorb into the skin as compared to body lotion, and overapplying body butter can leave you with a greasy skin feeling. When it comes to the texture of body butter, it is much thicker and denser, needing a more thorough massage into the skin. While body butter does have a longer shelf life than body creams, there are additional oils like Vitamin E, that can help make it last even longer. The body butter is especially useful during cold weather where the skin is more prone to drying and flaking, but it can also clog pores, so it is best to avoid it on the face.

So how do you choose the right one for you? If you typically suffer from overly dry skin, especially in the winter months, body butter is the right move for you. If you also have aging or mature skin, that needs a little bit of extra moisture, you will probably want to opt-in with the body butter option. However, if you are looking for a moisturizer to use all year round, on a day to day basis, and don’t usually have dryness on your skin, then body lotion is going to be your best bet. Body lotion and body butter differences are important to know in order to choose the best option for different skin types, and personal preferences.
